Stevenson held to a field goal in 38-3 loss to South Lyon East

LIVONIA — Livonia Stevenson's first game as a Lakes Valley Conference member produced almost no offense. South Lyon East won 38-3 at Stevenson on Thursday night, and the Spartans' only points came on a second-quarter field goal.
Stevenson finished with 106 total yards — 64 passing and 42 rushing. The Spartans did not reach the end zone.

Jacob Fornash and Nolan Whittstock each recorded eight tackles for Stevenson. For South Lyon East, Zach Clay rushed for 101 yards and Anthony Shaieb added 61 yards and two touchdowns.
An 0-2 start
Stevenson opened the season Aug. 27 with a 26-14 loss at Westland John Glenn, a non-conference game in which the Spartans at least found the end zone twice. Thursday was a sharper drop.
Through two games Stevenson has scored 17 points and allowed 64.
South Lyon East is 2-0 and 1-0 in the conference. The Cougars opened with a 21-0 shutout of Bay City John Glenn.
Stevenson in a new league
Stevenson joined the Lakes Valley Conference this school year along with Livonia Churchill and Livonia Franklin, all three leaving the Kensington Lakes Activities Association. All three lost their conference openers Thursday. Churchill fell 49-14 at South Lyon and Franklin lost 58-7 at Walled Lake Western.
The 12-team league splits evenly after one week of conference play, with Farmington, Milford, North Farmington, South Lyon, South Lyon East and Walled Lake Western at 1-0, and the three Livonia schools joined at 0-1 by Lakeland, Walled Lake Central and Walled Lake Northern.
What's next
Stevenson hosts Walled Lake Central on Thursday, Sept. 10. The Vikings are also 0-2 and 0-1 in the conference after a 59-0 loss to Milford, which makes it the first realistic chance for either team to get into the win column.
