No Pain, No Gain? Not Here

Paris, the massage therapist behind Paris Massage, began a professional career in Livonia 12 and a half years ago, while living in Redford. In answers to Livonia Thrive, Paris said each visit starts with a sit-down consultation on health history, pressure, past experience with massage and comfort; that Livonia-area clients carry back and neck pain from desk jobs and from caring for children or elderly parents; and that a hot stone massage paired with a sugar foot scrub is meant for deep relaxation rather than work on trouble areas. Paris recommends at least one stretch after every massage, and more water, and called "no pain no gain" the biggest misconception about massage. Paris Massage is at 39209 Six Mile Road, Suite 211, in Livonia, and works by appointment. A Livonia Thrive drawing for 50% off a one-hour massage there ($42.50 value) closes Monday, Oct. 26.

Kirksey, who led Livonia from 1996 to 2003 and 2008 to 2015 and built the recreation center later named for him, died Oct. 13 at 97, the City of Livonia said; the city says no services are planned at this time, and his family's obituary says a celebration of life will be held later. At the Oct. 12 City Council meeting, all 17 speakers on the city's Flock license-plate cameras in closing public comment opposed them; speakers cited records of more than 1 million outside searches of Livonia's data in July and August, and a motion to move the issue out of the Public Safety committee failed 1-5. Council voted 6-0 to have a 10 p.m. quiet-hours ordinance drafted and 4-2 to give the park mowing contract to the low bidder for $84,518, and set the Seven Mile condominiums and Brome Modern Eatery for its Monday, Oct. 26, meeting. Livonia Planning Commission backs EV charging lot on Levan Road over neighbors' objections, rejects gravel truck yard on Amrhein
10/16/2026
The Livonia Planning Commission on Oct. 13, 2026, voted 3–1 to recommend rezoning 0.29 acres at 15150 Levan Road from C-1 to C-2 for an electric vehicle charging lot. Commissioner Peter Ventura cast the dissenting vote. Rennolds Ravines residents had submitted a 25-signature petition and raised concerns about stormwater, creek erosion, lighting and security, and the petitioner offered a conditional rezoning that would limit the site to EV charging. The commission denied a truck and trailer storage yard at 36555 Amrhein Road, the former Contractors Steel site, after commissioners called the plan too preliminary and questioned the use of crushed concrete instead of pavement; that petitioner has 10 days to appeal to City Council. It recommended approval of outdoor storage for a contractor yard at 34426 Rosati Avenue with nine conditions, and voted 4–0 to recommend a permanent drive-thru windscreen for Chick-fil-A at 11700 Middlebelt Road. A proposed ordinance setting rules for future zoning moratoriums was tabled to Nov. 10, with commissioners asking for a clearer process and shorter time limits. Only four of the seven commissioners attended.

Flock cameras dominate Livonia council meeting as residents line up to speak; council keeps issue in Public Safety committee
10/15/2026
Flock license plate cameras dominated the Livonia City Council's October 12 meeting, but council took no action on them. A motion by Councilmember Brandon McCullough to move the issue to the Committee of the Whole failed 1–5, keeping it in Vice President Patrick Brockway's Public Safety committee while more than a dozen questions await answers. Seventeen speakers opposed the cameras, citing FOIA'd logs showing more than 1 million outside searches of Livonia's data in July and August, including searches tied to immigration and federal agencies. Council also voted 6–0 to have the Law Department draft an ordinance moving residential quiet hours from 11 p.m. to 10 p.m. A sidewalk waiver for four new Fairlane homes failed on a 3–3 tie.
