No Pain, No Gain? Not Here

LIVONIA — 10/20/2026

Paris, the massage therapist behind Paris Massage, began a professional career in Livonia 12 and a half years ago. In answers to Livonia Thrive, Paris described the consultation that opens every visit, the back and neck pain Livonia-area clients bring in, and the stretch every client leaves with. The biggest misconception about massage, Paris said, is "no pain no gain."

Livonia first

Paris started a professional massage career 12 and a half years ago, and Livonia was the first area Paris worked in. Paris lived in Redford at the time, close by, and said “the people are great.” The business carries Paris’s own name.

The consultation

Paris sits down with each client for a consultation before the massage. It covers what the client needs from the massage: health history, the level of pressure the client wants, previous experience with massage, and levels of comfort.

What clients carry

Clients in the Livonia area, Paris said, carry back and neck pain from desk jobs, or from being a caregiver to children or to elderly parents.

No pain, no gain

The biggest misconception about massage, Paris said, is “no pain no gain.”

“I can work toward fixing a problem without it being painful.”

Hot stones and a sugar foot scrub

Paris pairs a hot stone massage with a sugar foot scrub, done with exfoliating gloves. The pairing is meant to induce deep relaxation, as opposed to working out trouble areas or giving the session one main focus area. Paris described it as an overall experience.

One stretch, more water

Paris goes over stretching with every client after every massage, and recommends at least one stretch to do at home, along with drinking more water.

“The one thing people can do at home is stretch.”
